MICHAEL KILLEN, SCULPTOR
I was born in Dublin, Ireland and studied in Dun Laoghaire School of Art and Design, majoring in Sculpture and Fine Art. I then received a scholarship from the Italian Government to study in the Academy of Fine Art in Florence. On completing my time in the Academy, I moved to Peitrasanta, a town just north of Pisa, and there I worked under the direction of a family of stone sculptors until my return to Ireland.
On my return, I established my studio in Malahide, North County Dublin. I received a number of commissions and was given the opportunity to assist the German Sculptor, Imogen Stuart, in a series of her larger commissions, which was a wonderful privilege. While working with Imogen I received a further series of commissions, and have worked on a commission basis ever since.
These have come from both public and private clients, both in Ireland and across Europe. I have exhibited work in the Jorgensen Fine Art Gallery (Dublin), The Doorway Gallery (Dublin), Sculpture in Context (The Botanic Gardens, Dublin), Kenny’s Gallery (Galway), The Royal Ulster Academy (Belfast), The Millcove Gallery, Castletownbere, Co. Cork and The Irish Embassy in Berlin (Germany).
